SUBARU BOXER® Engine
SUBARU BOXER® Engine

In
the SUBARU BOXER® engine cylinders lie flat, 180 degrees apart, and the pistons
move horizontally. Like a boxer ready to fight clashing his gloves against each
other, the pistons move simultaneously from opposite directions to balance out
each others vibrations, and therefore allow a smooth and quiet drive. The piston movement allows the engine to be
mounted lower in the center of the vehicle providing better balance, easier
steering, and handling. The design of the Boxer engine allowed Subaru master
the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive by giving our vehicles better traction due to
balanced weight of the vehicle.
